Not So Hot Water Beach (widwed231019)

Today we drove to Ocean Beach just outside Kawhea.  This would be a hot water beach in that a section  has a source of geothermally heated water which can be enjoyed by digging a hole into the sand in the right place.

Sadly, the right place is only accessible at low tide so we just had to make do with enjoying having the whole beach to ourselves - which was not at all bad as consolation - see extra.

The sand is very dark, with flecks of shiny minerals which make it sparkle in the sunshine.  In the main blip Gill walking back over the dunes to the road end gives a sense of scale.

Thanks to everyone for your visits and comments over the past few days.  We are now in New Plymouth as Gill wants to see Mt Egmont/Taranaki.  Just for clarity - I want to see it too!
