Mouse Tails

These little flowers are hidden under the wood anemones. The only thing that gives them away is the odd arum lily type leaf. I had to persuade the anemones to part for a while so that I could get a shot of them. They have very long tails. See the tail on the central one. It curves around and up over its head and away. Most of the green stems belong to the anemones.

Amazingly there was a mild nor’wester overnight and this morning everything was dry, but with a cold, wet change predicted. What a great opportunity to deal with the rose bush that had been flattened by yesterday’s snow. This bush is very large- metres tall and wide. I had to remove about a third of it to get it under control, using pole loppers as well as secateurs. Then, before the rain started, I pulled a lot of large weeds that have grown so quickly. There were sow thistles a metre high, or would have been if the snow hadn’t pressed them flat. The cleavers (goose grass) are rampant at present, and easy to pull. Most of it is affected by the Gallium gall mite.
