On the road

The alarm blared at 3.30am for an early departure to Lichinga in northern Mozambique, which I last visited in May. There Michelle and I met up with colleagues from the project in Niassa Reserve, and went to find somewhere to work on budgets in a dingy guesthouse. Often people ask me what my day to day is like in this job. I have to quickly dispel the notion that I’m usually in the field censusing exotic plants and instead am usually sitting in a boiling location on an Excel spreadsheet, wrangling over the cost of replacement tyres. Or travelling on a stretch of road in a remote place.

My sister celebrates her 35th birthday today. Feliz aniversário dearest sibling.
