Common Enchantments

I think I was in Siberia

We missed all the bad weather yesterday but this morning it was waiting on us.  We awoke to a temperature of 5F (-15C) and the wind was blowing about 40mph.   The snow was falling lightly and swirling around in curls and wisps which was really sort of pretty.      After checking the road forecast ahead, the hubby decided we were going to stop at the Walmart (no trip out west is complete without a stop for something at Walmart!) for some chains to fit his tires just in case!     He purchased the LAST BOX!  (Yeah, we did this, John Smiley!)   Luckily we did not need them even though the road was snowy.  The truckers were moving so we just followed the line.  We left Nebraska with a five hour ride in good conditions but with all the blowing snow, slower speed due to the white out conditions and general safety precautions it took us eight hours.    The world was totally white for the whole eight hours except for one point where the sky opened, the sun popped out and there was a patch of blue.   This did not last long as we had to make a turn to the south where the roads and views were back to white.

Fortunately, we arrived safely and have a nice warm hotel room, lots of leftover pizza for tomorrow and plans to stay inside until after lunch.  Jerry hopes the sun will come out by then as it is supposed to.   He hopes to get some elk hunting/scouting done tomorrow as the cold weather causes the elk to migrate from the higher mountains to the flatter area where he hunts.   Too much information, right!     I will go with him since I don't want him to be by himself.   I might just sit in the truck with my camera and a book!

This photo was taken as we drove by this outhouse!    I knew it was there and kept hoping for a possible photo opportunity.   I left it blurry because I was trying to get the feel for the wind and snow that was happening.
This is pretty much what the buildings and things looked like today.

Tomorrow is another day.  Bring it on!
