Magical Dawyck

One of my all time favourite places. Dawyck (pronounced doik) Arboretum is in the Scottish Borders. It is run by the Royal Edinburgh Botanic Gardens.

At any time of year it is a wonderland. We were two or three weeks too late for its Autumn best but it was still a lovely sight. Developed over very many years by its previous owners it is an aesthetic and scientific delight to explore with many paths and streams over a large hillside area.

One of the extras shows the yellow seeds of the Hornbeam with lush lichen growth on the tree.
Another gives a glimpse of the fungi to be found in September and October. A third shows the colours which are glorious.

The crispy bacon rolls are the best I know of.
