Fiona

Today's the day ................................. to be tolerant

This is Fiona. Among other things, she is a waitress at Pumpkins Restaurant in Kendal. She has the face of an angel - and the patience of a saint.

We were in there this evening enjoying Will's raffle prize win of a fish & chips meal for two (with bread and butter and pot of tea) - and on a table not far from us was the most indecisive, exasperating, pernickety, impossible-to-please man I have ever come across in my life.

He insisted on going right through the entire menu, asking what everything was and what ingredients each dish contained. He was a vegetarian - but there were quite a lot of vegetables that he didn't like. Eventually - after much deliberation and question-asking, he decided on a random selection of bits and pieces - all of which had precise instructions on how they were to be on the plate (eg no cheese sauce (what sort of cheese will it be?) on the peas or the carrots). He was a complete nightmare.

Through all of this, Fiona remained calm and polite, answering all his questions as well as she could. That girl deserves a medal .............................
