Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Staple Singers - This May Be My Last Time (1954)
The Staple Singers began life as a gospel group led by Roebuck Staples, who arranged this traditional song in 1954 for their first single on the Sharp label, before they signed to Vee-Jay or Stax. This is the song that formed the basis for the Jagger-Richard composition The Last Time, which in turn led to the Andrew Oldham Orchestra version that was sampled for Verve's Bitter Sweet Symphony and subsequent legal battles. This song is included on Got Blues If You Want It, a collection of songs that were covered by the Rolling Stones and was played by me on this day.
