Lincoln Cathedral

Today was such a sunny bright day, we decided to drive over to Lincoln for a visit before we headed back to Cambridge. I'd never been before, and it had long been on my wish lists - and it didn't disappoint!

We only had a couple of hours, and it was very busy, but I loved the cathedral quarter, and the Steep Hill going up from the Main street from the city gate to the castle. This is a pretty bog standard tourist shot, but I was trying to capture how it stands so much higher than most of the city.

Can you imagine having a spire on the TOP of this central tower? When it was completed in 1348, it was 520 feet tall - and the tallest building in the world for almost 250 years, before it collapsed. Astonishing for the time, and even now would probably challenge modern builders to attempt it.
