Black-headed Gulls: Queueing Up For Bread...

Please look in large ("L"): I think that this one is simply too small otherwise...

Despite their (comical) squabbling, the gulls do appear to be fairly orderly about their feeding: if you stand in the same place and throw bread up for them, they tend to try to hover as near to you as possible as they fly past, before moving on and wheeling around for another pass. When lots of them are doing this, it gives the appearance of an organised circular flow of birds on an imaginary carousel. Today, my mother was throwing bread up for them while I stood next to her taking photographs: the gulls were trying to hover very close to us (some less than a metre away!) which was quite exhilarating and made for some entertaining photographs, although it made it harder to keep them well framed.

I like the movement in this one: there were a few ones of them in pleasingly synchronised shapes, but this one seemed the most dynamic shot.
