My Street No. 2

The collage shows the road, and the two photos taken of the new school which is being built.

The present school was first built at the begining of the 1960's. It was then Birkenshaw Secondary school, for ages 11- 16.
Many years later Kirklees Council changed to a three tier system, for schools, and so it then became Birkenshaw Middle School for 9 - 13 year olds.
Last year they changed back to the two tier system, with the closure of many first schools and middle schools.
However the parents of Birkenshaw campaigned for nearly 5 years to open an academy so that the local children would still be able to have a local school, and not have to travel miles.
Eventually they won, and the new BBG Academy is now being built and will open in September.

I like the sign which says " Live School Please Be Condiderate" !!
