The beech copse at Stancombe

I stood at the side of the quiet back road looking out over the fields near Bisley. The wind was nearly howling so that the clouds and brief patches of sun light were dashing across the landscape. The colours of the beech trees' leaves are looking wonderful this year and they are quite late in falling.

I heard a car slow down and I looked around me. The driver wound down his window and looked up at me slightly above him on the bank beside a stone wall and with a big smile shouted out 'I think it looks beautiful too', and then he drove off. That made me smile despite the cold wind.
