It was minus 4 when we left the house at 7.30 am for the station and my Edinburgh day out. (I woke at 4 am so had plenty of time to get ready)

Jenny and I had a coffee in the Balmoral - it was freezing so we went to the portrait gallery. However the photographic exhibition did not open till tomorrow so we had another look round at some familiar faces.

We walked up to Royal Terrace to 21212, so far our favourite Edinburgh restaurant. Unfortunately it lost its Michelin star this year but the food was as good as ever. Tom Kitchen, whose Leith place was said in the papers to have been discovered with a mouldy fridge and mouse droppings managed to retain his star. Who knows how these things are decided.

We had a lovely catch up. So nice to meet up.
