No Romance In The Cup

Sophie was awake before 6 a.m this morning so I was in plenty of time for our regular 8.30 tee time and some still reflections on the Beak House pond.

Sophie was flagging a bit by the time I got home so we had some quiet play time before we took her home.

This evening saw the rearranged Yeovil v Hartlepool Cup tie, postponed from Saturday.

Sadly, the game was marred by more controversial behaviour when the Hartlepool goalkeeper made a point of ostentatiously celebrating their 3rd goal right in front of the home fans, making shall we say, provocative gestures and two hotheads in the crowd responded by lobbing coins in his direction. The stewards who were standing right by these so called fans did very little to stop the situation, despite a large number of us calling for the culprits, who were easily identifiable, to be thrown out.

For the rest of the game, the keeper took every opportunity to antagonise the crowd , repeatedly gesturing and mocking them and the same two "fans" kept responding in kind.

Eventually the referee gave the keeper a long lecture, hopefully reminding hi of his responsibilities, but it made little difference and he kept it up at the final whistle, despite stewards trying to usher him away.

There's no excuse once again for the behaviour of this very small group of fans who are giving us all a bad name and we real fans are getting fed up with it. Similarly, players need to behave professionally,in the best sense of the word, and set a proper example.

Chris was so incensed that he has sent an email to the club, wanting to know why action wasn't taken against the offenders; it will be interesting to read the response.

Anyway, Yeovil didn't play very well and deservedly lost 4-1but the result was secondary to the bad taste the evening left in our collective mouths.
