Windfalls

This basket of apples has appeared in the front garden of one of the houses down our street. They obviously have a glut ... we are delighted to help ourselves as our very old apple tree had a very poor harvest this year. Last year our apples lasted until March. Is it true that a good harvest only occurs in alternate years?
