Nature Diary...When all you can do is laugh

Between heavy showers the sun broke through the clouds and the birds resumed feeding from the feeders. A Dunnock, normally quite a shy little bird, perched behind Little Imp for quite some time and surveyed the surrounding countryside and looked out over the sea. The rain had recently stopped and for just a few brief moments the sun, now low in the sky, broke through the thunderous looking clouds and a golden beam illuminated the little imp who, as normal, just laughed. Shining as though he himself was made of gold he sat smiling, the little Dunnock sat still, and I sat watching. And through my mind drifted thoughts of the weather, of chores awaiting, of people called ‘Snowflakes’, of the promises our politicians are currently making, and of the delightful newly adopted term ‘Fake News’, known in my youth as ‘Bare-faced-lies’ as a ‘Load-of-old-tosh’, then later ‘Baloney’, ‘Hogwash’, then ‘Complete B...ocks’ and ‘A-load-of-Cr.p, and now the much more refined pseudonym ‘Fake News’. It’s all the same as it ever was and, whatever it’s called, as Judge Judy is fond of saying: “If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s a duck". And like the little Imp I too just laughed. Sometimes that’s all you can do. Fake News..hahaha!
