Northern Lights + Meteor

Despite my pessimism, we finally got to see the Northern Lights.

We were taken on a 2 hour coach trip to where the weather was clear and spent about 2 hours watching the Aurora and didnt get back till 1 am. The aurora passes by in a narrow time window between approximately 9 and 11pm. We were lucky that there had been a solar flare 2 days ago which apparently promises good Auroras for the next few days.

Everyone was a bit surprised how faint it was to the naked eye. The camera pictures are much more dramatic than what we actually saw. There were hundreds of possible candidates for todays blip and many of them had more dramatic views of the Aurora but I had to choose this one as I spotted a meteor trail on the final image.

If anyone is coming to Tromso to see the lights, I recommend the Northern Lights Chase trip as the guides were very good.

PS re-uploaded a new version with the white balance adjusted to remove the light pollution
