Pointing Out

A faint light broke through grey clouds and I set the bent over bough of an ash tree against it. Working the scene with various dof and formats, I became aware of a nearer branch rising out of the reeds. The arching limb seemed to echo the far tree and, stooping low, I framed them one against the other, both pointing out over the lake.

Initially I was frustrated that I couldn't get everything in focus. After a few attempts I realised it was more interesting not doing so. And then it was a case of deciding which element was more important. I chose the branch because it seemed a solid anchor.
