A day in the life

Bonfire

My landlord is clearing out old burnables and trash from his barn and property. Some gets sold or given away, some disposed at the recycling station and some gets burned, which is the traditional way of dealing with it by farmers. Earlier in the season he has felled some old trees on the property and after the wood has been taken care of, the branches gets burned.

We gathered a heap, of which you see the major part in the blip, and set fire to it. It burned most of the day, the first couple of hours it needed attendance but after that it mostly took care of itself, there was no, or very little wind. I kept an eye on it from inside and the last time I was out poking it, it was still very, very hot after burning for over five hours.

There's something very calming in looking after a fire, the thoughts fly far away and if the weather is like today it's a soulful experience.
I can't resist an extra ,showing the glowing remains of the big heap. Walking on embers anyone?
