Etchings and paintings

There are currently two interesting exhibitions at Tullie House, Carlisle. One is a collection of Rembrandt Etchings from the British Museum. These pieces are wonderfully intricate and convey so much. well worth examining closely.

The other exhibition is Turner: Northern Exposure. This is a collection of paintings (and some sketch books) from Turner's 1797 tour of the North of England. Some mesmerising pictures, in oils and watercolour - Buttermere, Derwentwater, Windermere, as well as many others from Yorkshire and Northumberland. So interesting when one knows the views and then sees Turner's interpretation. Excellent!

As we left Tullie House for the car park the sun was going down and the light was quite wonderful. The buildings here are part of the Cathedral/Church precinct.
