Kirkcudbright Bridge

Today's the day ……………………… to cross the Dee

It was far too late in the day to be taking pictures but you might just be able to make out the current bridge over the River Dee at Kirkcudbright.

It was built in 1926 to replace an earlier bridge built in 1868 - and it provides a direct route west out of the town. Apparently, it looks quite like the bridge that it replaced although that one had 6 spans as opposed to the 5 of this one. Below the spans the piers are paired and while only two stand in the river at low tide, at high tide, all are partially submerged.

I'll go and take another picture of it when we have light again ………………….
