Australia In the Air

Yesterday’s rugged nor’wester continued through the night and all today. It brought smoke and dust across the Tasman from the Australian bush fires, making the sky a strange colour. This shot was taken more than an hour after sunrise.

By late morning the sky was so dark that it was more like dusk. Then a thunderstorm struck, with rumbles that went on and on, overlapping with the next wave. This afternoon the hot sun came out, but there was no let-up from the wind. I stayed inside.
