Waimak In Flood

Mid afternoon the nor’wester that has been battering us for the last 4 or 5 days eased a bit. Since nor’westers bring rain to the mountains I have been wondering how flooded the Waimakariri River would be. There was evidence that the river had been much higher than it is, and much more turbulent. Even though the wind had dropped a bit it was far too rough for me to venture out onto the bridge. The gorge funnels and compresses the wind. I had to shelter behind the wall at the approach.
