Black Fantail

The odd fantail couple, one pied and the other black, have been here all day.  For some time now they have been visiting only at dusk when the midges are flying. Today I was delighted to see that they have at least one chick. At present it is pied with subdued colours and a white tail. My best shot of it is in extras. It darted about so quickly that it was gone when I pressed the shutter button.  The pied one is shy and I don’t see it properly, but the black is very bold, flying very close to me and around me. They are all very noisy.

A light southerly was a relief from the nor’west gales. Instead of the constant roar of the wind in the trees they sang like gentle waves breaking on the shore.
