A Miniature Visitor, and a Too Big One

I thought I’d give you a break from the fires (a least with the main blip) with this picture of one of our adorable, tiny (about a metre tall) visitors. Its owners as well as two of our other neighbours had a torrid night with rings of fire around their houses but except for one old shed apparently nothing lost.

The fire trucks left our place after an uneventful night but there has been a fair bit of activity during the day with helicopters emptying our dam to pour water on flames at the back of the farm.

Tonight the wind settled and it’s remarkably pleasant. We went for a drive and you can see from the third extra that it’s not as good as seemed. That is zoomed in and cropped quite a bit so we were perfectly safe. It is along the fire trail beside our place where they are putting a containment line.

Unfortunately the news isn’t so good with the fire to the north. We have heard 50 many houses have been lost at Mt Tomah and the fire has entered the Grose Valley. Not much can be done to fight it there as it is wild bush. It will head east now and threaten townships in the lower mountains. Disaster!
It could also turn on Blackheath in which case we will have to go back there to defend our main house.

The second extra is a not so welcome visitor. It’s a red bellied black snake. At least I know where it lives!
