Say Cheese!

This map belonged my father and I’ve had it since he died over 21 years ago. It’s dated 1947 when he would have been 19 so possibly his first map after passing his driving test! It covers an area from Hartlepool in the south to North Berwick in the north and across to Penrith. Printed on a sort of cotton/linen paper it’s obviously been well used and whilst most of the main roads have changed somewhat over time the rural roads are possibly still as is. So no longer really fit for purpose and many places on the map are now either derelict or non existent but a nice keepsake to have...and at about 72 years old its actually outlived my father!

Someone thought he’d get a nice shot of Elk today using Dads old Coronet...little did he know that it hasn’t worked for about 50 years and there most definitely isn’t a film in it!

Thanks to Marlieske for hosting Derelict Sunday.
