Sgwarnog: In the Field

Wintry

Once the wintry showers had passed it turned into a nice sunny day. The snow didn't really stick, but there was a definite dusting over on Bingley/Hawksworth/Burley Moor.

I walked out along Moorside and back along the edge of Spring Wood. Everywhere is a swamp and wellies are a necessity to wade through the pastures. There was no chance of getting across the stepping stones, so I kept west of the Beck on the way down to the Dam.

There was a large flock of Redwing tucking into Holly berries just above Spring Wood and sightings of Song Thrush, Bullfinch and Buzzard added to the interest. The Dam itself was very quiet, just a few Mallard. The Moorhen population seems to have decamped to the smaller lake upstream.

I probably should have been out Christmas shopping, but that seemed a waste of a nice day.
