At Kilpeck: Asparagus waiting x

Asparagus is a weird plant. These fronds are allowed to die back in winter, or at least have thee appearance of dying back. Asparagus is a lot like bracken. It keeps all its energy beneath the ground in that root ball. The roots are incredibly deep, and the plant literally goes from strength to strength every year. Or at least every year the sun shines!

Last year, the rain caused havoc to so many asparagus farmers. The year before, well I was once of many involved in harvesting. The spears can grow 10 inches in 24 hours. So to many, although a cash crop when the sun shines if you haven't got the man power to keep up with the harvesting, the plant literally grows like a possessed weed, and spoils itself into bolting and using all its energy up on one hot day!

I was delivering wood today. An unusually warm day, with snow visibly on the hills behind Kilpeck onto Hay on Wye. The lighting almost spring like.......x
