oh, nuts...

...acorn nuts

some scattered on the ground - i stepped on them - before glancing up - noticing i was standing under an oak tree... joy - joy for squirrels in the area come summer time... inspecting these tiny shells - made me think of the perfect nut bowl nature has created for birds, squirrels, mice - whomever else might eat off the mighty acorn... can you tell - doesn't it look like a bowl - you could hold it in the palm of your hand...

some fun facts regarding the acorn:

-acorns are toxic to horses
-all acorns contain the minerals - calcium, phosphorus and potassium - as well as the vitamin niacin
-acorns have frequently been used as a coffee substitute - particularly when coffee was unavailable or rationed
-it's the symbol for the national trails of england and wales
-in the 17th century - a juice extracted from acorns was administered to habitual drunkards to cure them of their condition

who knew there was such varied and wide spread use for acorns - or that they were attributed to a diverse amount of things... always interesting the information you find - when you look - to share with others - information i wonder was it made known to me growing up and i just sort of missed it... i feel as though i'm much more aware now - as a grown up - have more of a desire to learn - an eagerness to broaden my horizons, so to speak - that i did not necessarily possess as a child... i wonder how much zipped by me - but alas - i'm learning now - have an open mind to all things like these little tid-bits - and that always contributes to...

a

happy day.....
