Clearing up

After several weekends of working with wood, now cleaning up. Luckily we inherited a petrol-driven sweeper, ideal for sawdust. Still got about 5m³ of 1m long logs to saw but hope the supply of cut logs will last until the sun gets more powerful in February and we can use 'free' PV electricity.

Sons of a friend dropped by to finish off putting some roof felt on our barn in the forest that had been damaged by tree branches and a marten. My loathing of heights is legendary. Recently they replaced some of the timber that had completely rotted thanks to the marten. The barn roof would probably have caved in this winter if we have a decent amount of snow.

I would like to build an owl nesting box on the side of the barn as seen in the extras. Inspired by a young British lad encountered on Twitter who is battling from a terrible case of cancer. Same age as my grandson, Alex is constantly going through treatment in the UK but above all Kansas USA, a very costly undertaking. His hobby is animal/bird conservation and he has a rescued owl himself.

As one occasionally hears owls, I know they are in the area but don't think any nest close to the house. Think the site is ideal as it borders both forest & open meadows (for mice).
