Leaving Ushuaia

I bounced out of bed at 5 am but alas the Greg Mortimer was already docked.  Wonderful to see it there and wondering whether we would get to meeting anyone who had been on it on it’s maiden voyage.

We dropped the suitcases off for collection to the boat and then it was off to breakfast.  The place was heaving because all Aurora passengers had to stay at the hotel.  A monk attempted to steal Gills seat but was swiftly put in his place.  A little lie down and then off for a walk.  I met the motorcycle gang coming up the mountain and aside from that, nothing much else. There is a meet of motorcyclists at this time each year who have done the drive from Alaska.

At last we were picked up by the bus and taken on a city tour.  We did go to a couple of places we hadn’t before including the old airfield where you got quite good views of the town and then on to the prison which had been converted into museums.  A quick wander to get coffee from Auntie Sara's and then it was back to the bus to be finally welcomed aboard.  The ship is bigger close up and what a difference to the polar pioneer.  Luxury!

Dinner has gone up a notch or two as well.  Choice of starters and a choice of three mains and deserts with lots of wait staff and wine with dinner.

It was down the Beagle channel.  It took a long time to navigate.  I thought it would be quicker and we still hadn’t finished the end of it until after dinner.  We dropped the pilot off and then it was off to bed.

There is a large contingent of Taiwanese on board.

The extras show the ship docked and some dog walkers we saw on our City tour.
