Flotsam

I saw these yesterday but didn't have my camera so placed them back in the water and wedged them between some rocks. But the tide did it's thing in the night and by this morning the bit of wood with it's passengers was back up on the beach with the passengers expired.

These are "Stalked Barnacles", Lepas anserifera. When I put them back in the water yesterday evening, they stretched themselves out on their stalks and opened their shells and waved beautiful delicate fanlike fronds in the water. Would like to have captured that.

Life is tough when you live on flotsam.
