The Insect Hotel

Finally, we had a sunny day! After all the raining we’ve had, the paths in the oak meadows are half mud, half sheep poo so we took a long walk on the gravel roads around them instead. We can’t wait for the ground to freeze!

Since the oak meadows are a nature reserve because of all the old oaks there, no wood can be taken out, even if it’s dead. So they build these insect hotels to mimic the natural habitat of insects who depend on dead wood to survive and have babies. We’re not sure if anyone has actually moved in yet.

Lots of skiing today! We got one person on the podium! Yay! Mum ambushed me in between the two races, when I thought we’d have cosy fika time. But no. The postponed Christmas B. A. T. H. happened. Grr. Now I smell like rainforest for the new year.

We’re going to Grandma’s for dinner, and then we’re going to bed early, before the stupid fireworks begin. This has worked well for us the past two years. We just ignore the banging. Paws crossed.

We wish all our friends a Happy New Year 2020!
