Wound up in Wexford

Mirador de Teide

We had booked a slot on the cable car up Teide today, but as we were getting in to the car to drive there, I received a text informing me that "due to adverse weather conditions" (I'm assuming it was the wind, which we had noted when getting up) our slot had to be cancelled.  We rebooked for tomorrow and instead, just set off to drive somewhere/anywhere.

We drove north, partly because pretty much all of Tenerife is north of here, but also because a chap we met yesterday said it was much greener in the north.  We headed up the west coast, initially on the motorway, but then on more minor roads.  We stopped for a coffee in Chio, then headed over a mountain pass.  We stopped at a viewpoint called Mirador de Teide, from where we could see Teide in the distance, across a fertile valley, the Valle de Arriba.

After many twists and turns, we ended up in a little harbour village called San Marcos, where we had a lovely relaxed late lunch of paella, see extra.  Then an interesting drive home over a wonderful, but rather narrow mountain road.  The views were spectacular, but poor W was not really able to appreciate them.

Not being big on New Year celebration, we're often asleep as midnight strikes, but not much chance of that tonight.  We're now sitting in our little apartment, which is immediately adjacent to our hosts' outdoor area, being "entertained" by their choice of New Year's Eve music, and their outdoor cooking smells.

Oh well.  Felicidad Año Nueva to all my Blip friends.
