Half Mast

Back to work today. Although a lot of people are still off. This is the “phoney working week”.

The flag has been flying at half mast since before Christmas, following the passing of a much respected councillor. I had known him for a long time and liked him. He did a lot of good work representing and trying to do the best for his residents, and will be much missed.

It’s not just Manchester that can lay claim to bees as motifs. The five on the flag represent the city’s five townships. There is also a shuttlecock - the textile industries (a lot of the mills are long gone), A ship - the ship canal. And elements representing engineering. The colours are those of the Earls of Chester - through whom Salford received its first Charter in the year 1230.
