Aging Shouldn’t be for the Elderly

You get old, outlive your friends.
No more curling, no more golf.
Your good and well meaning kids help you move into a new place that helps you.
Helps you go to the washroom.
Helps you get up in the morning and go to bed at night.
Reminds you to take your pills.

You try to keep a good attitude but it’s all strange. For 95 years you’ve taken care of yourself, and now you are told you can’t.

You’ve always cooked food for yourself. Food you like, food that likes you. Now, you’re not allowed to cook. You try to learn to like how they cook, but it’s so hard. Each meal rubs it in that you are no longer your own.

You end up living a stranger’s life. Someone you don’t even recognize.

It’s so difficult growing old. Even with a good attitude.

I visited with a friend today, and he didn’t complain, which I credited him with. I sometimes fear how I’ll age. I’m not always sure it’s a great blessing to live into ones 90s.

We’ll see.
