Dragon tree walk

Back blipped on 9th Jan, along with yesterday's photo.

Today we visited the Jardin Botanica Canario Viera y Clavijo.  Like so many places in the Canary Isles, it is built on the side of a hill, resulting in some challenging stretches of walking for W.  But the views were spectacular, and the planting suited our preferences – not overly organised.

We spent several hours there, climbing gradually to the top, late lunch in the rather posh restaurant there, and then gradually making our way back to the bottom.  We could have spent longer, but needed to leave to get back to our apartment before it got dark.
There were lots of native species – Dragon trees, Canarian pine trees, laurel, Canarian palm trees.  Lots of birds, though most flitting about in the trees, too quick to be seen, never mind photographed.  I did spot a robin, a bird that I think was a Canarian chiff chaff, waxbills (which are not native, but have naturalized), and of course the Muscovy duck (NOT native to the Canaries) seen in extras, that clearly associated people with food.

Our WiFi is still non existent, and unfortunately there was no WiFi available at our lunch venue.  Catching up on 9th.
