The mini meadow in winter

Fingers are crossed that come Spring the mini meadow will bloom again!  I've been following instructions today and cutting back the dead seedheads and raking out the dead material.  There seems to be a lot of grass in there but Tony think it is the grasses which were part of the wildflower turf and not the old grass pushing through.  I hope so, I certainly spent a lot of prep time clearing out those roots and then Tony added sand and grit to lower the fertility of the soil base.  I came across several large rhizomes from one of the flowers which produced large leaves last year but no flowers so it will be interesting to see what it is.  I had to politely ask a new neighbour to see if he could deter his dog from using the mini meadow as a route back up to the street.  It had got into the habit of chasing another neighbour's cat down the footpath and then using our garden as a short cut back!  It had cut a swathe through the plants in summer.

Well watch this space come Spring.
