Diary of an Edinburgher

Day out for all

Lucky Archie today - two lots of pals took him out, morning and afternoon. Kerri and Luke came first, and took him across the Meadows, via 56 North, their favourite dog friendly pub. Becky and Daniel in the afternoon took him to Harrison Park for frisbee fun as usual. But we put our new little plan into action - on their return, Becky was to pop him into the house, where we'd left a nice big peanut butter stuffed bone for him to chew on. And so we could have a leisurely afternoon in town.

It was bright sunshine, and we popped to a new(ish) hotel with wonderful views over the city. And we got two free glasses of champagne because I correctly guessed a little puzzle the barman challenged us with! We then had a couple of their 'small plates'.

We also popped in to the City Art Centre, where there were old photographs of Edinburgh, but even better - an exhibition of paintings by Edinburgh artist Mary Cameron (1865-1921). They were wonderful! She was a woman ahead of her time.

We then had a wander along Princes Street back to our bus, but the sight of the mud and mess from the clearing up of the Christmas Market in the Gardens - and it'll be like that for months - was depressing. A coffee at Prêt before the bus (and I had time to nip to get some licorice).

Archie was still happily chewing on his bone by the time we got home. He probably hadn’t even noticed we weren’t there... A grand day out for all.

PS JR is annoyed I didn’t tell her to fix her (faux) fur hood before I took the photo...
