New salle

Up early to start the baking for CarbBoy's birthday tea (just us, but still you have to do it properly).  Then at 11 off to the village for the Maire's new year message and the inauguration of a new "Cultural Centre" in the village - and very nice it is too.

Here the Maire is speaking, flanked by a representative from our Département, our Senator and some other bloke who is obviously important in some way.

Amusingly, the chap standing next to the plaque accidentally knocked off part of the cloth that was covering it before the unveiling, causing it to swing against the face of the embarrassed looking woman a little to the left (who was closer).  She reached up and tugged it down - to much hilarity from the crowd.  Once a sufficiently tall man was found, it was reinstalled for the later official unveiling.

Then in a very sweet moment the ribbon across the door of the building was held up by two little kids (my school committee friend's children) for the Maire to cut.

After a bit more helloing inside, I had to duck out early to get the one working (mostly) car back to Mr B so he could take CarbBoy to basketball.

They lost their match, but he never seems too down about that which is good thing really given how competitive he is during the matches.  Once Mr B had got an unfortunately timed work call out of the way, the present opening frenzy and birthday tea began - with little sandwiches, cake and even a Galette des Rois (chocolate flavour) and the birthday boy obviously found the fève!

With all that cake, etc, dinner was not really wanted by anyone, so we just slobbed in front of the telly.
