Life in Sunny Dubai

We have Mountains!

Woke up to a beautiful blue sky today. It really was remarkable.

We had already decided to go to Church and then watch a movie, but the day was so clear and gorgeous, we decided to head to the East Coast instead. The movie can wait for a dull day!!

The UAE has land that extends from the Arabian Gulf (read Persian Gulf) to the Arabian Sea. Some Emirates (like Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah) are lucky enough to have land on both coasts! There is also a mountain range that runs from the North (Straits of Hormuz) all the way down to Yemen. They are called the Hajar (translation - Stone) Mountains and are very bare, yet still look great good.

They very distinctly have different colours depending on the mineral content in them... brown, green, pink, white, black... The highest point is 2000 meters. Lots of wadis and oasis abound and it makes for a wonderful getaway from the City. For a long time, the entire East Coast was very under developed, but that is all changing. Lots more dual carriageways, shops, tall buildings, hotels etc etc...

We saw beautiful desert landscape dotted with camels, some crazy things on sale on the side of the road, mad driving (mainly from other out of towners), a man riding his motor bike in the fast lane on one wheel, a VERY grand mosque under construction in Fujeirah, graceful palm tress, and lots and lots of majestic rugged mountains.

SO worth getting out and leaving the movie for another day! :)

Hope you've all had a good start to your weekends.

PS. Any credit for the image should go to Jellyfox who painstakingly took pictures whilst I drove! (After I set up the camera ofcourse!!!)
