If you can't beat them...

Pooley.

Back in November Clickychick and I had a trip out to Pooley Bridge to have a look at the work to replace the bridge lost to Storm Desmond in 2015. There had been a temporary bridge but now it is being replaced.  Much faster than Langwathby bridge which was lost in the mid 60s and is still on the temporary structure.   Kanyl had seen on the Internet a clip of steel work for the bridge being brought up the motorway, so we decided to have a run out to see how things were going.

The title gives a hint as to how things are moving on!   Pooley is still missing a bridge.  In fact I can't see any changes since CC and I visited on 27/11/19.  Certainly there were no signs of the steel work we had seen the video of.   If I hadn't recognised the compound in the video I would have said they hadn't been delivered.

After a very breezy and cold time taking shots, we nipped into Granny Dowbekin's for a warming coffee and very tasty scone.  I had thought businesses in Pooley Bridge may be feeling the pinch with visitors arriving at a dead end and unable to cross the river.   The 20 or so people who trooped out of the café showed I was wrong.

The blip is showing the northern bank of the river.  Before work started this was a lovely car park with a beach leading into the river where kids could paddle while adults sat in the shade of the  trees.
