Between fen and mountains

Back to school

I arranged for us to make a school visit. We were taken to a private school owned by Carmelites. Only the headteacher and administrator were from the religious order. All the teachers were lay and the school took Hindu, Muslim and Christian children. The fees to attend are modest. English is the language of instruction and I was impressed by the politeness and good behaviour of the children. Levels of literacy in Kerala are the highest in India at 94%. The children were showing off their exhibits in the annual science exhibition.
