Technicolour Parrot

I went to a garage sale today and came away with this shot of a beautiful parrot that was so intent on feeding on the nectar in a roadside bush that it had no idea I was creeping ever closer.

It is found in eastern and southern Australia and the Torres Strait and is similar to the Rainbow Lorikeet though is a distinct species (Swainson's Blue Mountain Lorikeet Trichoglossus haematodus moluccanus). Apparently they live for around 30 years and are sociable and noisy.

It's been hot today. I've alternated between working on the computer and nipping in and out to watch the tennis. Andy Murray got throguh in straight sets to round 4 of the Aussie Open - hooray!
