Library berries

Outside the library this shrub has produced these strange berries. I have never seen them before, so maybe I should have gone to the gardening section while I was in there . However, I am sure someone here will be able to tell me what they are.

It was noisy in the library. There was a playgroup in the children’s area, with toddlers, their Mums and the leaders all singing nursery rhymes. Whilst it was fun hearing all the old favourite songs, it made it difficult to concentrate on choosing books for not only myself but for Normous too.
