MV Pharos SG

It was sub-zero temperatures this morning at Custom House Quay in Greenock. I was surprised to see the fishery patrol vessel MV Pharos SG tied up at the quay.

The MV Pharos SG has been working in South Georgia as a fishery patrol vessel. She enforces fisheries licensing and conducts compliance inspections on licensed vessels. About eight months per year are spent deployed at sea around South Georgia, with brief returns to the Falklands to refuel and resupply.

Pharos SG was launched at Ferguson's in December 1992 for the Northern Lighthouse Board as a multi-purpose lighthouse tender.

Great light this morning helped create a dramatic atmosphere at the quay side. It could have been the film set for the fabulous Danish crime drama "The Killing". All that was missing was Denmark's favourite detective, Sarah Lund.
