Snow Limits

Coming down from the Lammermuir foothills between Pathhead and Deuchrie, East Lothian, this afternoon. The difference in the hills compared to the coast was stark - and very welcome! Slushy and sleety by the coast, within 30 minutes cycling south - and up - I was in a frozen, snowy wonderland again. It was cold, it was wet, it was windy, and the moments of peace in between joined the whole experience into a memorable journey.

Coming down from Deuchrie Dod over bracken and gorse, just riding it like it wasn't there, I met an old friend, miles from anywhere, with his family out sledging. Utterly random! Of course, we both chatted as if it was the most natural thing in the world to be up a hill behind a sheep farm when your mate cycles down the hill on his bike in the snow. :)

Snow Joke.

After a morning of sledging with the children, I left the house about 1.30 and got home 5 hours later. What a wonderful day!

Here's a comparison of summer and winter:
My Sunday 29 July 2012 Blip and...
Much the same view today as the snow came in.
Same bike funnily enough!

Home for a very hot bath, Gilles Petersen on iPlayer, and lots of things to offset the healthy afternoon and set things right. Lime Doritos and Cono Sur Pinot Noir for a start!

The beach bike hit it's stride today, always really meant for snow and pressed into sand service by us East Lothian types. What a joy to surf down untouched snow on it this afternoon! I'll try to get up the hills on it again tomorrow.
