Save Grove Hill!

More yellow and black signs pop up daily in town and beyond.

A developer bought the historic property  and wants to build  2 houses and 3 townhomes on it, after removing 1,000 tons of soil and the WPA-built wall surrounding the property, part of which is shown here.  This same builder did another project at one of the other hilly entrances to the town with disastrous results.  One house was demolished and another unexpectedly slid down the embankment and had to be rebuilt (lawsuit).  We're left with a row of new "upscale" condos that don't look anything like the rest of the village.  There was something rotten in that whole deal and now again it appears there are shenanigans in the works as village meetings for this project weren't announced, etc. etc.

So far, over 1,600 people signed a petition in  a town with 1,872 total residents including minors.  Many plan to show up for the architectural review board meeting tomorrow night.  We live just 3 blocks from the village center in another township, but our street is supporting the effort to nix this project.

The preservationists are upset because the Victorian home and stone wall have historic value.  The immediate neighbors are upset because they don't want to see their view of the hill changed.  The town is upset because this would dramatically change one of the main entrances to the village.  And anyone who went to high school here is upset because this is where the pumpkin roll has taken place for decades.

Me, I'm not upset.  I just don't want it to happen.
