About Snowdrops ...

Found one this afternoon in a dog-walking area in one of the neighborhoods of Rotterdam-Alexanderstad. Coincidentally - if coincidence exists - I had read a nice article about snowdrops during the weekend. I give you a summary of it in ten facts about snowdrops ... ;)

A The scientific name Galanthus nivalis is derived from the Greek words 'gala', which means milk, and 'anthos', which stands for flower; nivalis (Latin) means snow.
B There are nineteen types of snowdrops and more than five hundred cultivars are known.
C The snowdrop symbolizes hope, (again) awakening and spring expectation.
D One of the many folk names is 'early morning'.
E Snowdrops are poisonous, both leaf, flower and bulb.
F In addition to the bulb, there is also the snowdrop tree (Halesia carolina); however, it only blooms from mid-April with flowers that indeed resemble snowdrops.
G If a snowdrop feels good in a place, a ball quickly becomes two balls and over time a beautiful white carpet of delicate flowers can develop.
H A fairly unknown way to get more snowdrops in the yard is by sowing.
I When the green seed pods turn yellow, open slightly and the stalks bend to the ground, it is time to collect. Sow immediately and directly into the ground.
J In nature, ants lend a hand in spreading snowdrops. The seed has an 'ant bread': a white, sweet growth that ants like to feed to their larvae.

Thank you all for your visits, comments, stars and hearts on my latest blips. I try to catch up with your journals. However, it takes/took a little longer than I thought and hoped for ...
