Jack's back

Jack returned, after a long hiatus, to our carrot-strewn garden.

Ever since Ottawacker Jr. saw him last year, our carrot tops and bottoms have been religiously distributed to the back garden, in the hope that Jack - or one of his reincarnations - might come to nibble on them and preserve his strength for the long winter ahead.

I had become a little downhearted at the fact that Jack hadn't been around for so long (how many people put out carrot scraps for him, I wonder?), but following a lengthy preparation of chicken soup (making sure all the carcass is used following a Sunday roast), the ensuing distribution of carrots seems to have kicked in the homing sense for our leporine friend.

So there he was.

"Told you so," said Ottawacker Jr.
