"Of course it isn't right yet"

The first Mrs J has various "helpful" suggestions to make. Most of them are based on the requirement for me to abandon my existing personality. "The trouble with you is that you are impatient, bad tempered and give up when anyone can see that it only requires a little more patience for you to get it right. I know that one in four people born is Chinese (this was true 30 years ago; accuracy is not one of her strong suits) but our second daughter was not one of them."

I think I shall abandon portraits of members of the family. Further reflections will follow choir practice and a well-deserved visit to the pub.
